One Swab. One Match. One Life Saved.

Most people have never heard of stem cell donation. Fewer still know that they could be someone's only chance at survival — just by registering as a donor.

Youth Forum, in partnership with DKMS (one of the world's largest stem cell donor organizations), is working to change that in Subhasgram and South 24 Parganas.

What is Stem Cell Donation?

Stem cell donation (or bone marrow donation) is a life-saving procedure for patients with blood cancers like leukemia, aplastic anemia, and other serious blood disorders. When a patient needs a transplant, they need a matching donor — someone whose bone marrow profile closely matches theirs.

Without a match, many patients like Soumiparna Mitra — a young leukemia patient from our own community — cannot proceed with treatment.

The DKMS Partnership

Through our partnership with DKMS, Youth Forum organized a Stem Cell Donor Awareness Drive on 14th February 2025. Our goal was simple: register as many potential donors from Subhasgram as possible.

Participants:

  1. Filled a simple registration form
  2. Received a swab kit (a cheek swab — completely painless)
  3. Returned the swab by courier — and were registered in the global DKMS registry

Soumiparna's Story

Soumiparna Mitra, a young girl from our community, is fighting leukemia. Her treatment requires a bone marrow transplant that costs ₹11,00,000. Beyond the financial challenge, finding a matching donor is an enormous hurdle.

Youth Forum is:

  1. Raising funds to cover her treatment costs (Donate Here →)
  2. Working with DKMS to find a matching donor through the global registry

How You Can Help

  • Register as a stem cell donor — visit dkms-bmst.org to register
  • Donate toward Soumiparna's treatment — cause-1
