"We are friends of the street. Don't hurt your friends."
This simple, powerful slogan is at the heart of Youth Forum's Animal Welfare Initiative — a program dedicated to protecting and feeding stray dogs in Subhasgram and surrounding areas of South 24 Parganas.
India is home to an estimated 30 million stray dogs. In Subhasgram, like many semi-urban areas, stray dogs are often malnourished, injured, and at risk from traffic, poisoning, and mistreatment. Their suffering is invisible to most people — until Youth Forum decided to make it visible.
Our volunteers organize daily feeding rounds in Subhasgram, providing nutritious food to stray dogs in identified hotspots — near the railway station, market areas, and residential streets.
When someone spots an injured or distressed animal, they can call our Animal Distress Helpline. Our volunteers coordinate with local veterinary services to provide emergency care.
We conduct awareness sessions in schools and communities, teaching children and adults to coexist peacefully with street animals — and crucially, to never harm them.
